I'm just curious to see what kind of pots people are using for growing out tree seedlings or rootstocks. There are so many choices and I'm wondering if the up front costs of fancy air pruning pots are worth the benefit. Any thoughts?

I bought bottomless banded sapling, and vented rose cells from: Anderson Die and Manufacturing, portland OR. Their minimum is several cases. Expect a 200 to 400 dollar order. This was some years back. They did have a web page I think.

These days trees are often sold in black plastic bags, but I reckon you need some setup to fill them easily with mix and plant the tree, I guess that this is much cheaper.

If it can grow, I will grow it. If not, I will make it grow.

I use the black plastic Bags, it works out quite cheap. filling them is not too hard, I usually fill them up on Saturdays when im free and just a bunch of them filled for when i need to bag some plants. oh you should keep them watered though or the soil will become hydrophobic with time. generally i will water them once a week and keep them covered with a tarp.I got my small 1 liter bags for about $70.00 for 5000 bags. about the same for 1000 2.5 liter bags and $90.00 for 250 20 liter bags. those are the biggest i use for my $25-50 plants

If a landscape size tree is your goal (I am in a bonsai rut), fabric bags aught to be the way to grow.
