Here is how you can build a really easy shadehouse. It is with reinforcing mesh and starposts. I haven't build one myself yet, because I am reluctant to spend the money for the reinforcing mesh so far. Have a look here: Gardening AustraliaThis sounds reasonably easy.

Ramada's used to be built out of brush and corn stalks in the southwest.

I Find using PVC conduit pipe and re-bar makes a quick and easy shade as long as you reinforce it with cross pieces and cover it with shade cloth. if you wantin it natural with dappled shade then use poles with crossbeams like an arbor and cover the top with small branches.

actually many people here use starposts and polypipes (every serious veggie gardener here has his garden meshed). It is used for orchards too.

I only actually use that for a fast and ready temporary structure. my serious space is a timber and shadecloth construction

I finally have a crop of rootstock for apples growing. I don't use stooled whips, I grow antonovka out from seed, making full sized standard trees.
